This trailer for Microsoft’s strategy franchise takes its time.
“Halo Wars 2” follows its 2009 predecessor in taking Microsoft’s flagship shooter franchise and turning it into a real-time strategy. This time games studio Creative Assembly is involved, which has a strong track record on both strategy (“Total War”) and sci-fi lore (“Alien: Isolation”).
Blur’s trailer, directed by Dave Wilson, pitches the United Nations Space Command against hairy new enemy The Banished. The trailer pauses the action from time to time, to concentrate on the leaders of both factions as they observe the devastation of the battlefield. This reflects the content of the game: it's about planning and execution, rather than just shooting stuff until it falls over.
“Halo Wars 2” is due for release early next year.
